This is a review. Read more about the plot of the drama from my CW here.
“I’m curious if there is a secret in this world that can be kept forever.”
Secret started with Min Hyuk (Ji Sung) being obsessed with getting his revenge but somehow the drama ended as a romance. It seemed that the more Min Hyuk fell for Kang Yoo Jung (Hwang Jung Eum) the more he forgot about the revenge he so badly craved and plotted for years…
Secret’s character transformations from good to bad and vice versa didn’t quite convince me. In the end Ahn Do Hoon (Bae Soo Bin) and Shin Se Yeon (Lee Da Hee) gave up willingly and to be honest, pretty easily. It seems that like Ahn Do Hoon said, justice and truth are hard things to find.
“Do you know the delusion that people with nothing have? It’s the belief that there is truth and justice. Don’t be mistaken. There are no such things.”
I did enjoy the bittersweet romance that Min Hyuk and Yoo Jung had going on. Like I said in my CW, at first I was pleasantly surprised that Secret and its characters were that light on the brooding but at the end I found myself really craving for something more. Yes, Min Hyuk’s eyes when he looked at Yoo Jung were one of a kind: they almost melted me with the sweet, chocolaty emotion that Ji Sung could pour into his eyes, but (I hate that there’s always a but) the romance bloomed fast and somehow it just wasn’t explored in the drama enough.
So in the end even though Secret was a drama I enjoyed, it was bland. It needed more. More of romance, more revenge, more something dramatic.
