Recently I have been loving Korean historical dramas more and more. At first, after the first episode, I was captured by this drama. I feel that towards the end the drama actually suffered from the few amount of episodes (6 half an hour episodes).
The characters, their stories, motivations nor the romance were given enough time to develop. I always prefer stories where the viewer is given time to feel the story like the characters are. We grow to like and love the characters and begin to feel what they do.
Here unfortunately everything was stated for the viewer: it wasn’t be discovered.
The sad ending of Kim Woo Jin and Yun Shim Deok seemed unreal because of this. In my opinion their suicide was dramatized and the real tragedy was lost in it and lack of explanation and time.
The Hymn of Death was okay, but with some more work it could have been good or even excellent. Too much was left out of the story.
